GA Notes – Thursday, Nov. 17, 2011
Note taker: Thomas

Announcements:
The Ride the Bus action on Tuesday was great – there was awesome dialogue about the issues people are facing in Albuquerque. One rider explained that in the winter a few years ago there were only a few people per night at the women’s shelter, but now there upwards of 300 women per night.

We need more people to volunteer at the Info. Booth at Yale Park, 11 am to 6 pm M-F.

The La Plazita event last week was a great experience.

There will be a youth GA this Sunday at 12:30 at Yale Park (invite your younger relatives)…

Tuesday, January 17 is the opening day of the state legislative session. Occupy Santa Fe is magnetizing an #OWS action – we will be a part of it.

Proposals
Proposal: We should add a list of occupy/unoccupy friendly business on the unoccupyabq.org website. We should also have a sign that businesses can post inside of their premises to show they are in support of us.
Consensus.

Proposal: This Saturday’s action will be at the Hyatt hotel in front of the national conference of the young democrats at 11 am. We will suggest on the website and facebook that people carry signs which speak to the following:
Amending the constitution to get money out of politics
The super committee is not good
Wealth inequality
What the democratic party should work towards.
Consensus.

Proposal: Working groups that meet at 6 p.m. on Tuesdays or Wednesdays should meet at Yale Park. If they are meeting off site on one of those days, they should not meet at 6 p.m.
Tabled.

Proposal: Place a poll on the front page of the unoccupyabq.org website to ask people’s opinion about constitutional amendment language.
Consensus.

Open Mic:
In other places, people are calling this Occupy War Street. There have also been actions in Flagstaff and other places where people are finding their sacred lands abused. Tribal governments are manipulated by the federal government and corporations – there is a long-standing battle against Peabody Coal. The Navajo Relocation Act is bad – people don’t have electricity or running water. See blackmesais.org
