DAY: Thursday, June 14th
TIME: 5:00-8:00 p.m.
WHERE: Tiguex Park, Albuquerque (near Old Town, across from Explora!)
WHY: To welcome the Occupy Caravan to New Mexico!
WHAT: Homemade New Mexican potluck, 99-sec. 99% story telling, freshly silk-screened “This Land is Native Land” t-shirts, a jaunty parade through Old Town, and a big old camping slumber party!

We will be sharing great food and the good works of community activists across the state in honor of the Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Phoenix, and Flagstaff Occupy caravaners who will stop in Albuquerque on their way to the Occupy National Gathering in Philadelphia June 30-July 4.

The line-up thus far includes posole (Maria), tamales (Ilse), homemade salsa (Pete), green chile chicken stew (Tina), vegetarian green chile stew (Hershe), and fry bread (Cassie). We need all sorts of other eats and drinks so think about what you can make for the feast.

We will be entertained and informed throughout the evening by the 99-sec. 99% storytellers – aka each of us. Share your opinion of the #OWS movement, the state of the world, your life, somebody else’s life or whatever inspires, enrages, invigorates, or intrigues you in the form of a rant, dance, poem, speech, song, painting, article, photograph, instrumental or whatever else floats your boat. We’ll provide the soapbox and the timer.

Just before dusk we’ll gather up our pots and pans and head off on a joyfully noisy and colorful parade through Old Town. The evening will end at a yet to be determined location where the caravaners and New Mexico supporters will set up camp for the night. The Caravan will leave the next morning for Amarillo. One of their purposes is to gather up local riders and drivers as they head East, so round up some friends and a vehicle and jump on board!

It will take each and every one of us to make this celebration fabulous. Please invite the wonderful community social justice workers you know, spread the word statewide, prepare food and your 99-second spot, and show up with family and friends.

Contact Hershe (hershe310@gmail.com) as soon as possible to let us know what food or beverage you’ll be bringing, any community organizers you have invited, and how many friends you have roped into the festivities.

For carpooling from Santa Fe, contact Carmen (ctstone313@aol.com).

In love and solidarity,
The (un)OccupyABQ Occupy Caravan working group and Occupy Santa Fe allies
