(un)Occupy ABQ to Santa Fe Walk

Notes from the Walk.

Monday Jan. 16th, 2012

4:45p – BREAKING NEWS: The walkers have arrived in Santa Fe!
THREE DAYS LATER, many miles, collective growth, and individual growth.
Occupy Santa Fe, Occupy Farmington, and Occupy Espanola joined (un)Occupy Albuquerque walkers along Cerrillos into the Santa Fe Railyard!

4:00p – 2 miles left! They are headed North on St. Francis and looking strong! Santa Fe folks have met up and are walking together! So proud of all of you! JOIN THEM!

1:20p – MARCH INTO SANTA FE: I-25 (facing southbound traffic) Walkers are passing Cerrillos exit. Headed for St. Francis Exit going to walk N. to rail yard on St. Francis JOIN US! (One request from the walkers: dry, warm socks!)

11:33a – “We are at the SF county/NM599 Railrunner station.”

Leonard Peltier has offered two rooms at Red Roof Inn for the night. They haven’t reached a decision whether they will accept.

10:15a – Walkers are 14 miles from the encampment, 7 miles on I-25 and 7 miles on St. Francis. Join the WALKERS for their last day of walking! I-25 from La Cienega north to the Railyard in Santa Fe.

Sunday Jan. 15th, 2012:

San Felipe to La Bajada Hill → west side of I-25 (facing traffic). JOIN this political and spiritual journey or come camp tonight.

10:03a – “We have reached mile marker 256. Another car stopped to share their support for our walk after they saw the Leonard Peltier sign. We are receiving a lot of support/honks from people on the road.”

KOAT has also briefly covered the walk.

Sun. evening – Santa Fe is in sight of our walkers! They will camp at the rest area at the top of La Bajada. JOIN US!

Saturday Jan. 14th, 2012:

We’re gathering at Yale Park at 8:00 a.m. We will leave about 8:30 and walk downtown (1.5 miles) to the Rail Runner station to catch the 9:33 northbound train. We’ll get off at Bernalillo (~10:00) and start heading up I-25. We’ve got 45 miles to cover, so we’ll be walking all day Saturday, Sunday and Monday with plans to arrive at the railroad yard in Santa Fe either Monday evening or Tuesday a.m.

Sat. evening – JOIN THE WALKERS AT SAN FELIPE TONIGHT. BRING CAMPING GEAR, ALL ARE WELCOME! They are just east of the casino. Head towards the Hollywood Hills Speedway, they will be waiting for you there!
